You'll be amazed how much even the smallest car can hold and stay within its legal load limit.
Bear in mind the following weights when loading your car after a shop:

  • A case of wine (12x75cl) weighs 15kg
  • A case of champagne or sparkling wine (12x75cl) weighs 22kg
  • A case of lager "stubbies" (24x25cl) weighs 8kg
  • A case of beer/lager (24x50cl) weighs 13kg
  • To put that in layman's language:

  • Ten cases of wine (120 bottles) weighs 150kg or as much as two adult men
  • Four cases of champagne weighs 88kg — that's one 14-stone man
  • Twelve "stubbies" equals two husbands
  • And ten cases of beer/lager (24x50cl) is the equivalent of two shapely wives!
  • If you want to be really precise, consult your vehicle handbook, which will give maximum loading capacity.
Remember to leave some space to see out of the back window!
