Markets:
Place Crèvecoeur (off Boulevard La Fayette) (Thursday/Saturday)
Place d'Armes (Wednesday/Saturday)
Away from the main Supermarkets and Hypermarkets, a little piece of traditional French shopping remains in the two Calais Markets.  Wednesdays and Saturdays see the Place d'Armes given over to local produce, while on Thursdays and Saturdays it is the Place Crèvecoeur's turn.  Both these atmospheric markets offer a chance to purchase fresh farm produce, including homemade cheese, jam and cakes. It's an ideal opportunity to rub shoulders with the locals and pick up some really fresh food. Look out for seasonal fruits and vegetables, and stalls selling delicious sausage and smoked garlic. Both markets are best visited early as they finish around noon.

The Place d'Armes is in the centre of the Old Town area, minutes from the port, and Place Crèvecoeur is about 20 minutes' walk away to the South.

Tobacco:
Unlike the UK, hypermarkets do not sell cigarettes and other tobacco products. Smokers should head for Le Sain German (at 51 Place d'Armes in the centre of town). This shop has one of the biggest selections of British tobacco in Calais. Even with the abolition of Duty Free, it pays to buy your cigarettes and tobacco in France.
Town Centre:
The three main shopping streets are Rue Royale, Boulevard Jacquard and Boulevard La Fayette. Lined with shops, cafes, and bars, these streets are good for browsing and strolling.
Cité Europe:
The main mall at the entrance to the Channel Tunnel is a shopper's paradise. Containing international chains, food courts and a hypermarket, it has something for everyone.
Clothes
Cité Europe is your best bet for clothing, with shops selling everything from baby clothes to chic French designer outfits.
You are spoilt for choice here with well known international brand names such as Naf Naf, Tie Rack, Etam, H&M and Kookaï as well as stores like M&S Mode, Armand Thierry & La Cie des Petits for exclusive French outfits.
Wine and Beer
There are loads of great beer and wine shops and warehouses in the centre of Calais and on the outskirts. Every outlet has a variety of special offers and specialities so it is worth shopping around. Click here to see our guide to Calais shops.
