From Cherbourg take the N13 to Valognes, Caen and Rennes.
VALOGNES:
The 'Normandy Versailles' is a town of history and art, which was badly bombed in 1944 but has been beautifully reconstructed, has retained a large number of 17th and 18th century buildings.
Very interesting Regional Cider Museum.
MONTEBOURG:
This town has also been reconstructed after World War 11. Visit the 14th and 15th centuries church. During the summer the Museum of the Milk is open to visitors.

Keep following the N13 road to:
SAINTE-MERE-EGLISE:
The first town in Normandy to be liberated on 6th June, 1944. The Church there has become a symbol of liberation of the city and preserves the memory of American soldier John Steele's misadventure when his parachute got stuck on the bell tower on the night of 5th June 1944.
Also see the Airborne Museum, a tribute to the Allied troups that took part in the Normandy Landings and the Ferme-Musée du Cotentin, where you will step back in time to see a large collection of farming implements and exhibits depicting rural life in early times.

Take the direction to:
SAINTE MARIE DU MONT:
Church with 19th century squared tower.

Go to the sea following D913:
UTAH-BEACH:
D-Day Excursion American landing beach in 1944. American Monument and memorial museum.
See the Musée du Débarquement.

Then take the D421 and the D69 to visit:
CRISBECQ BATTERY:
Lovely panoramic view over La Hougue Bay and Utah Beach.

Take the D14 to:
FONTENAY (CHÂTEAU DE COURCY):

and follow the D42 to:
QUINEVILLE:
seaside resort - a nice fishing port - 11th century roman chapel and the Freedom Museum. a brief insight tp life under the occupation.
18th century Quinéville castle set in lovely French gardens.

Take the D14 to:
QUETTEHOU:
Norman style 18th century church. Lovely view over La Hougue Bay and Saint Marcouf Islands.

Go back to Valognes and follow the N13 to Cherbourg.
