Travel Essentials
Car Directions: Cherbourg links to Brittany via the E03 (southwards towards Avranches), and Caen and the Loire Valley via the E46.
Bus Directions: The docks are a short walk from the town centre and a shuttle bus meets the conventional ferry for a 10 minute journey into the town.
Rail Directions: There are seven trains a day to Cherbourg from Paris St Lazare.
Planning Ahead
Places of Interest: There are many interesting and enjoyable things to do in and around the port of Cherbourg, such as the Italian-style theatre and a fine arts museum, which contains a variety of works by Dutch, Italian and Flemish artists. Other attractions include Emmanuel Lias Gardens, the spectacular Fort du Roule and a lively market, which is held Tuesday and Sunday mornings outside the theatre in the suburb of Octeville.
