Travel Essentials

Car Directions:
Follow the main A12 road from London to just north of Colchester, then take the A120 to Harwich. From Norwich you take the A140 to north of Ipswich, then the A45 bypass round Ipswich, the A137 to Manningtree, and from there follow signs to Harwich.

Bus Directions:
Regular services run between Harwich and London, and several other towns in the UK.

Rail Directions:
Trains run from London Liverpool Street station to Harwich International. Local rail services arrive at the terminal building, where an escalator will take you directly to the check in point.

Amenities:
In the terminal there is a lounge, a bar, café, shop, toilets, ATM and bureau de change.

Petrol Stations:
There is a Shell Garage on Station Road, directly outside the port. Also, a BP Vines Service Station situated at 394 Main Road. Turn left into West Street from The Quay, and follow the bend round into Main Road.

Planning Ahead

Places of Interest:
Harwich stands on a narrow peninsula, with its streets following the grid system laid down in the Middle Ages. There are antique shops, numerous inns and a number of excellent restaurants that have made the town a popular scene for dining out. There are several museums to visit, many of a maritime theme, and a carefully planned heritage trail adds lot of interest to this pleasant town.
